What you need to know
If you have an Industry Accredited (IA) CSCS Card (also known as a ‘Grandfather Right’s’ CSCS Card) then you should be aware that all IA cards will expire on 31st December 2024 and will not be renewed.
The last date by which you can renew a Grandfather Rights CSCS card is the 30th June 2024 although it will still expire six months later.
Why has CSCS made this decision?
At the beginning of 2015, the Construction Leadership Council announced that industry, including trade associations, contractors, clients and government, should specify and promote card schemes displaying the CSCS logo with no equivalents accepted. This is known as the One Industry Logo action.
The CLC listed a number of requirements necessary for a card scheme to qualify for the CSCS logo, which include:
- Agreeing appropriate qualifications for each job role or occupation
- Setting a minimum standard for skilled occupations at NVQ Level 2
- The implementation of smart technology using a common interface by 31st March 2022
This is the reason that the Grandfather rights cards will not be valid in 2025.
What you need to do?
Those holding Grandfather Rights (IA) CSCS Cards will be required to hold (or be working towards) an appropriate qualification before 31st December 2024.
IA card holders who do not take the necessary steps to replace their cards will find they will be unable to obtain another CSCS card.
